Plastic Pulse is the recombination of kindred forces after nearly two decades of divergent paths in constant contact. Emile Milgrim and Patrick Ethridge have been friends, collaborators, roommates, and co-workers in various configurations and time zones since the mid-90s. The songs on The Redshirt Mixtape began as casual meet-ups in mid-2022 to make “type beats” for fun, but lead to an album’s worth of experimentation. Picking up where the duo left off in a drafty PDX apartment in 2006, Redshirt reflects back on their early influences of abstract/instrumental hip-hop, reggae/dub, classic rock & soul music, and updates them through the lens of their now-more-cumulative musical vocabularies and life experiences.
